In Successful Selling Alex (Kevin Bishop, The Kevin Bishop Show) an experienced sales professional gets sucked into his online sales training app. As his virtual guide, Buddy (James Lance, Boy Meets Girl), takes him through a series of selling simulations, Alex realises that perhaps his technique isn’t as sharp as he thought. The first lesson Alex learns is the importance of research; initially he has difficulty with some clients as he hasn’t researched his product, the customers or their business, or the relationship between his company and theirs. Lesson two focuses on setting objectives. Here we see Alex preparing alternatives and fall-backs; he goes in to a meeting trying to sell 100 a micro satellites, and concedes in getting his client to recommend the product to the Board. He also discovers he can find other customers for his products and other products for his customers. The third lesson is about asking questions. By asking opening questions and keeping control of the interview he gets a high-flying advertising guru interested in buying advertising on his site. In module four Alex puts himself in the shoes of a customer, and learns the importance of explaining the benefits of a product and relating them to a customer’s needs. Next, he finds that customers do have objections, but these can be met if he plays it cool and gives compensating factors. Yes, the van doesn’t go that fast; but that means you will save money on fuel and prosecutions. Besides, there’s no point delivering milk in the back of a Maserati is there? In the last module Alex learns how to close a sale by looking for buying signals, asking for the order and keeping his mouth shut.
